inchats — Privacy Policy

inchats ("the extension", "we") is an independent Chrome extension that adds a spoiler-safe community comment, live-chat, and reaction layer to Netflix video pages. inchats is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix. This policy explains what data the extension handles and why.

Summary

inchats does not ask for your name, email, address, or any payment information, and it does not track your browsing. You use it under an automatically generated, anonymous pseudonym. The only information that leaves your device is the content you choose to post (comments, chat messages, reactions) so it can be shown to other people watching the same title.

Information stored on your device

Saved locally through Chrome's storage API and never used for tracking:

• Your auto-generated display handle and color (e.g. "GoldenOtter42").
• Your preferences: whether the overlay is on, the display mode, and the time filter.
• An anonymous sign-in session token that keeps you signed in across page reloads.

Information sent to our backend

The extension uses Supabase as its hosting and database provider (data processor). When you actively post, the following is transmitted over HTTPS and stored so other users can see it:

• The text of the comments and live-chat messages you write.
• The emoji reactions you send.
• Your anonymous account identifier, display handle, and color.
• The identifier of the Netflix title you are commenting on and the playback timestamp of your post (this is what pins a comment to a moment).
• Reports you submit about other comments.

Comments, chat messages, and reactions are public to other inchats users viewing the same title. Please do not post anything you consider private or sensitive.

Anonymous accounts

Sign-in is anonymous — we do not collect a password, email, or real name to create your account. If a future version lets you optionally link an email or Google account, that is your choice and this policy will be updated first.

What we do NOT collect

• No real names, emails, addresses, ages, or government IDs.
• No health, financial, or payment information.
• No location data.
• No browsing history, clicks, keystrokes, or activity outside the Netflix player.
• We do not scrape or store the video content you watch.

How the data is used

Solely to provide the extension's single purpose: showing community comments, chat, and reactions synced to playback, and moderating them (profanity masking, rate limiting, and hiding reported comments). We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Data retention and deletion

Posted content is retained so it remains visible to other viewers. To request deletion of your content or anonymous account, email us at the address below and include your display handle. You can also remove all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling the extension.

Children

inchats is intended for users old enough to hold a Netflix account and is not directed to children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and post the revised version at this URL.
